Senior Engineer, Static Equipment

Job Purpose
Provide engineering support and technical expertise to operating plants, pipeline, and projects related to static equipment discipline through all phases of projects ensuring the reliability, availability, and maintainability of mechanical equipment and systems.
Key Accountabilities
Engineering & Technical Support- Provide technical support/services in the area of static equipment engineering to pipelines division, sites, and projects group through RTS (Request for Technical Services).
- Develop and write the Statement of Requirements (SOR) for new projects and ensure its coordination with operators/sponsors. Develop and elaborate the Scope of Work (SOW) for consultants.
- Review and approve the design works of static equipment vendors/engineering contractors to ensure that they are in accordance with the scope of work. Review/approve drawings, specifications, and other technical documents for all types of projects incorporating the comments and requirements of the operating entity.
- Design in-house engineered works including drawings, specifications/data sheets, and material requisitions.
- Review design and vendor documents of static equipment such as vessels, heat exchangers, and storage tanks, using design software like PVElite, Compress, Tank, etc.
- Participate in HAZOP. Ensure cost-effective solutions and application of value-added engineering throughout the duration of projects. Provide troubleshooting guidance to operations, as requested.
- Provide technical expertise support to project management activities through all phases of projects: engineering, procurement, construction, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and hand-over of project facilities to end users.
- Perform technical studies in-house or manage technical studies through engineering consultants and provide technical reports with appropriate recommendations in line with the scope of RTS for static equipment engineering.
- Review/approve drawings, specifications, data sheets, and other technical documents related to static equipment engineering for all types of projects.
- Ensure that the consultants/engineering contractors’ designs are in accordance with the scope of work and facilities delivered to end-users are safe, reliable, operable, and maintainable.
- Update and develop company DGS (Design General Specifications) to take account of lessons learned from projects, current practices, latest technology, and changes in international codes/standards.
- Ensure company DGS and standards are maintained and implemented on all phases of projects being executed by the projects group, in line with ADNOC guidelines and industry best practice.
- Participate in RCA related to static equipment failure, troubleshoot, and recommend solutions.
- Ensure that the failure in equipment is eliminated or mitigated and proposed solutions are designed to safeguard company plant asset safety, integrity, maintainability, and continuous operability.
- Participate in the review and endorsement to prequalify suppliers, vendors, manufacturers, and consultants in the area of static equipment.
- Ensure that suppliers, vendors, manufacturers, and consultants under consideration are qualified and competent to supply goods or provide services to the company.
- Plan, supervise, and coordinate all activities in the assigned area to meet functional objectives.
- Train and develop the assigned staff on relevant skills to enable them to become proficient on the job and deliver the respective functional objectives.
- Provide input for preparation of the functional budgets and assist in the implementation of the approved budget and work plans to deliver functional objectives.
- Investigate and highlight any significant variances to support effective performance and cost control.
- Implement approved section, team, and department policies, processes, systems, standards, and procedures in order to support execution of the work programs in line with company and international standards.
- Contribute to the achievement of the approved performance objectives for the function in line with the company performance framework.
- Design and implement new tools and techniques to improve the quality and efficiency of operational processes.
- Identify improvements in internal processes against best practices in pursuit of greater efficiency in line with best industry standards in order to define intelligent solutions for issues confronting the function.
Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge & Skills
Minimum Qualification- Bachelor degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent professional qualification.
- Eight years of experience in design, procurement, and testing of static equipment within a large engineering firm, preferably in the oil and gas industry.
- Knowledge of design and engineering of mechanical static equipment like pressure vessels, columns, reactors, vessel internals, tanks, shell and tube heat exchangers, plate heat exchangers, air coolers, filters, flare systems, fired heaters, boilers, waste heat boilers in the oil and gas industry.
- Good knowledge in planning and building project-specific vessel specifications and datasheets as well as package management for procured items.
- Knowledge of international design codes and standards, procurement, construction, (pre) commissioning, and hand-over specification packages for static equipment including pressure vessels, storage tanks, shell and tube heat exchangers, air coolers, boilers, fired heaters, flare systems, dosing packages, chemical injection packages, and air dryers.
- Knowledge of codes and standards such as ASME, ASTM, API, TEMA, NACE, EN, BS, NFPA, etc., and international practices of reputed oil and gas companies and engineering companies related to static equipment.
- Knowledge and design experience using software such as PVElite, Compress, Tank, and other commercially available software.
- Familiarity with the capabilities and shortcomings of major static equipment manufacturers and consultants, and a proven track record of conducting technical negotiations with them.
- Awareness of commercial, contractual, and administrative aspects of engineering.
- Planning and organizing, scheduling and coordinating, checking, examining, and recording.
- Ability to transfer knowledge and develop assigned staff to acquire required skills.
- Extensive working knowledge in all phases of projects including Pre-FEED, FEED, and engineering, procurement, and construction.
