JOB TITLE: INSTRUMENTATION & AUTOMATION ENGINEER (WELLSITE & COMPRESSOR STATIONS)
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- We are seeking an experienced Instrumentation & Automation Engineer to support the design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of instrumentation, control, and automation systems for wellsite facilities and compressor stations within an unconventional oil & gas development project.
- The role also includes basic power engineering responsibilities, ensuring integration between control systems and electrical infrastructure.
- Design, review, and maintain instrumentation systems including pressure, temperature, flow, and level measurement devices.
- Ensure proper specification, selection, and calibration of field instruments.
- Support installation, testing, and commissioning of instrumentation systems at wellsites and compressor stations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve instrumentation faults and performance issues.
- Configure and maintain PLC, SCADA, and DCS systems for remote monitoring and control.
- Develop, review, and modify control logic, interlocks, and shutdown systems (ESD).
- Ensure seamless integration between field instrumentation and control systems.
- Support implementation of automation strategies to improve efficiency and reliability.
- Provide technical support for instrumentation and automation systems associated with gas compression, gathering systems, and wellsite processing equipment.
- Ensure compliance with operational and safety requirements for upstream facilities.
- Assist in optimizing system performance and uptime.
- Interface with electrical systems including low and medium voltage systems, MCCs, and control panels.
- Support integration of instrumentation and control systems with power distribution.
- Assist with troubleshooting electrical/control interface issues.
- Ensure compliance with electrical and safety standards.
- Develop and execute preventive maintenance plans for instrumentation and control systems.
- Participate in shutdown planning and execution.
- Maintain documentation, calibration records, and system drawings.
- Support reliability improvement initiatives.
- Ensure all systems comply with company and UAE regulatory standards.
- Support HAZOP, SIL, and risk assessments.
- Promote safe working practices at wellsites and remote locations.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation, Electrical, or Control Engineering.
- Maximum years of experience in oil & gas, preferably in onshore upstream operations.
- Experience with wellsite facilities, compressors, and unconventional projects is a strong advantage.
- Hands-on experience with PLC/SCADA systems (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Schneider, etc.).
- Knowledge of field instrumentation, control valves, and process control systems.
- Basic understanding of power systems and electrical equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in remote field environments
- Good understanding of oil & gas process operations
- Effective communication and teamwork
- Knowledge of industry standards (IEC, API, ISA)
- Experience in unconventional drilling environments (tight gas, shale, etc.)
- Familiarity with remote operations and digital oilfield systems
- Exposure to commissioning and startup of brownfield/greenfield facilities
