Flight Operations Manager (FOM) - ATR

Job Description
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Flight Operations Manager (FOM) to oversee our ATR fleet operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in airline flight operations, regulatory compliance, and crew management, with a proactive approach to safety and operational excellent.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure that the air service operates in a safe and reliable manner.
- Responsible for the supervision of general administration and the efficient functioning of the Flight Operations
- Department as a whole.
- Ensure that you have read and understood all Federal Airlines policies, procedures and follow the Flight Operations and Supporting Manuals at all times.
- Ensure that all types of flight operations in providing the air service are conducted in a safe and reliable manner, in accordance with Parts 121,135 and 91 of the CARs.
- Operational planning and all related duties and functions, (e.g. catering, refueling, preparation of contingency money, ground arrangements, additional transport arrangements, crew accommodation, cleaning of the aircraft, positing of the aircraft, standby crew, etc.).
- Manage apron activities, including baggage handling and loading of aircraft.
- Ensure that the provisions of the Management Plan are fully complied with in respect of Flight Operations
- Ensure flight dispatching, ground handling and apron management.
- Responsible for crew scheduling in terms of limitations placed on crew flight and duty periods and any other operational limitations as determined by Federal Airlines or its clients.
- Monitor the safe, efficient and economic operation of the Company's aircraft.
- Assist the Air Service Safety Officer and the Quality Assurance Manager in the efficient running of the Company Safety Management Systems and Quality Assurance Systems.
- Investigate and conduct feasibility studies of:
- New routes
- New equipment/aircraft types operated by Federal Airlines.
- New airports used by Federal Airlines.
- New navigation facilities.
- In the event of any emergency within the operations milieu, to function in the assigned position documented in the Federal Airlines Emergency Response Plan.
- Manage operational bases and assist the base managers wherever possible.
- Carry out regular visits and inspections of operational bases and report on problem areas.
- Assist in the preparation and conducting of audits and inspections on Federal Airlines operations by clients, quality assurance/aviation safety inspectors and or any relevant Civil Aviation Authorities.
- Ensure that all operational, navigation and MEL manuals are up to date and amended accordingly.
- Ensure that all navigation charts, maps and information disseminated to aircrew is of a high standard and current
- Carry financial budgeting and cost analysis incurred by your section, reporting such information to the Financial Department as required.
- Attend management and Aviation Safety & Quality meetings as required by Company policy.
- Liaise with all tenant organizations and other similar aviation companies in order to remain up to date with changes in the aviation industry which may affect the safe operation of Federal Airlines aircraft.
- Ensure currency of all licensing matters of aircrew.
- Control and updating of the Training Database.
Qualifications:
- Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL), preferably with ATR 72/42 type rating.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in flight operations management or as a Chief Pilot.
- Strong understanding of operational control, crew scheduling, and regulatory requirements (ICAO, EASA, or local CAA).
- Proven leadership and communication skills.
- Experience with safety management systems (SMS) and flight data monitoring preferred.
- Willingness to be assigned to West Africa
We are looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Training Manager to lead pilot training for our ATR fleet. The successful candidate will have hands-on experience with ATR training programs and will ensure compliance, proficiency, and continuous development of flight crew standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure that flying and training standards are maintained and ensure standardization of instructional and flight techniques among flight training personnel.
- Ensure that route proficiency checks, six monthly proficiency flight tests, and instrument rating renewals are carried out.
- Perform line checks and proficiency checks on Company pilots.
- Ensure that training files and complete documentation records are maintained for each individual flight crew member.
- Liaise with the Chief Pilot to ensure that training and competency checking requirements are completed with minimum disruption to the normal flight operations.
- Ensure that all South African Civil Aviation Regulations requirements in respect of the renewal or upgrading of pilot licenses have been complied with.
- Liaise with third-party training organizations and to submit recommendations that may serve to enhance Federal Airlines training capability and/or procedures.
- Undertake any other duties as may be assigned to him by the Chief Pilot or Responsible Person: Flight Operations
Qualifications:
- Current or former ATR TRI/TRE license or equivalent experience in pilot training.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in airline training, with a focus on turboprop operations.
- Strong understanding of training curricula development, simulator operations, and regulatory compliance.
- Familiarity with aviation training software and recordkeeping systems.
- Experience liaising with aviation authorities and managing internal or external training audits.
