About the job

Based at the Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental, Abu Dhabi within the Laundry Department, the Uniform Linen Supervisor is responsible for the smooth operation of the section and oversees the team of linen/uniform attendants and seamstress towards achieving the operational objectives while ensuring that the hotel's operational standards are met.

The Uniform Linen Supervisor reports to the Laundry Manager / Assistant Laundry Manager.

As a Uniform Linen Supervisor, you will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Managing overall daily operations of linen and laundry rooms.
  • Understanding and executing all policies, procedures, standards, specifications, guidelines, and training programs.
  • Effectively communicating with other employees in an attentive, friendly, courteous, and service-oriented manner ensuring quality controls are in place and managing internal customer needs.
  • Ensuring all equipmentu2014sewing machine, embroidery machine, and tagging machineu2014are kept neat and in good condition through personal inspection and by allowing the laundry preventative maintenance programs.
  • Understanding and strictly adhering to the hotelu2019s policy on fire, hygiene, health, and safety and handling all equipment, linen, and uniforms with care.
  • Always maintaining a high standard of personal appearance and hygiene.
  • Maintaining a good rapport and working relationship with staff of all other departments.
  • Always providing a courteous and professional service.
  • Ensuring quality controls are in place for all linen processes, rejecting any exceptions.
  • Always ensuring a clean and tidy linen room and reporting to the Laundry Manager / Assistant Laundry Manager if any items have been damaged (linen as well as uniforms).
  • Reporting to Laundry Manager / Assistant Laundry Manager in case any uniforms need to be discarded or replenished.
  • Ensuring that linen and uniforms are properly stored and recorded.
  • Ensuring that the proper procedure is followed when linen or uniform needs to be discarded.
  • Placing any torn linen separately and returning it to the seamstress for repair.
  • Ensuring the team sorts and arranges all uniforms for different departments and places them on the rails separately.

  • Coordinating with concerned departments and conducting linen inventory and maintaining records accordingly.
  • Overseeing and ensuring that uniform linen colleagues' performance appraisals are followed and completed on time.
  • Conducting on-the-job training and compiling the monthly training report.
  • Assuring a smooth operation with the highest standards of service to colleagues and guests.
  • Controlling and maintaining efficient organization and work methods of the department.
  • Performing any other job as assigned by the Laundry Manager.
  • Organizing rota, hours owing, and overtime to suit the needs of the laundry department.
  • Listening to employee grievances and/or feedback and bringing them to the attention of the Laundry Manager.
  • Giving feedback on employees' work performance to the Laundry Manager.
  • Reporting any colleagues' complaints or comments to the Laundry Manager.
  • Ensuring and maintaining a uniform linen room logbook.

As a Uniform Linen Supervisor, we expect from you:

  • Minimum of one-year experience in a similar role with preferable previous experience in a luxury hotel or resort.
  • Intermediate level or equivalent diploma or vocational training in hospitality.
  • Computer literacy in using MS Office along with experience in using inventory management software and hotel management systems like Opera.
  • Great personality and positive attitude.
  • Good knowledge of embroidery machines, marking and tagging machines, washing machines, dryers, and sewing machines.
  • Good communication and training skills.
  • Energetic, friendly, flexible, motivated, and able to work independently.
  • Good English communication skills.
