Job description
We are looking for a dynamic and knowledgeable music production & sound engineering tutor to join our teaching team. In this full-time role, you will deliver engaging, practical tuition to under-18s and adult learners in music production, mixing, and sound engineering across a range of genres and platforms.You will work with individuals and groups, helping learners develop technical, creative, and professional skills for the studio and live settings.
The role involves travelling between teaching locations, supporting evening classes, and working one weekend day per week. The ability to support students in musicianship, songwriting, or instrumental skills is a bonus.
Key responsibilities- Deliver high-quality 1:1 and group tuition in music production and sound engineering.
- Teach across key areas including DAW workflows (e.g., Logic, Ableton, Pro Tools), recording techniques, mixing, mastering, and live sound.
- Support learners in creative projects, portfolio building, and performance preparation.
- Tailor teaching approaches to suit different learning styles, genres, and ability levels.
- Guide students in using studio equipment, software, and hardware safely and effectively.
- Help facilitate studio sessions, showcases, and recordings as part of the wider programme.
- Keep accurate records of student progress and contribute to reporting and evaluation.
- Liaise with colleagues, parents/carers (for under-18s), and industry partners as needed.
- Uphold safeguarding policies and promote inclusive learning environments.
- Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and creative planning sessions.
Skills
Essential:
- Music degree
- Professional experience in music production and/or sound engineering.
- Proficiency in industry-standard DAWs (e.g., Logic Pro, Ableton Live, Pro Tools).
- Experience teaching or mentoring learners in production or engineering skills.
- Strong understanding of recording, mixing, and studio processes.
- Knowledge of different music genres and their production styles.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Willingness to work some evenings and one weekend day per week during term time.
- Secure understanding of safeguarding.
Desirable:
- Experience with live sound setup and engineering.
- Ability to support musicianship, songwriting, or instrumental tuition.
- Familiarity with music technology education frameworks or qualifications (e.g., RSL, BTEC, etc.).
- A passion for helping young people and adult learners develop creative confidence.
