Job summary
The senior mechanical engineer is responsible for all aspects of the project relating to mechanical works. The duties must be performed professionally and expeditiously to support the ongoing progress of the project. The role includes management of the mechanical inspector.
Job duties
The incumbent performs a broad cross-section of complex technical and administrative activities requiring extensive experience and specialization in contract compliance, quality control (QC), and quality assurance (QA) inspection of mechanical scope related to the project.
Analyses applicable codes, standards, and project contract documents and monitors construction activities to ensure compliance with contract documents.
Interprets or clarifies contract documents for contractors.
Maintains and prepares a variety of records including daily and weekly progress reports, material accounting records, change orders, and record drawings.
Supervises and provides assistance to the mechanical engineer.
Responsible for supervising, directing, and coordinating the inspection team.
Conducts weekly meetings with inspectors and the mechanical engineer.
Ensures that responses are complete and in compliance with the contract documents. Where problems are found, works with the project engineer to resolve them.
Audits inspections for conformity to contract documents and contractor-submitted plans.
Assists the senior discipline engineer to identify, respond to, or evaluate technical issues to maintain the schedule.
Highlights any violations related to construction or engineering issues on site through issuance of non-conformance reports (NCRs).
Attends progress review meetings and coordination meetings to assist the project lead or senior engineer in resolving any site issues such as discrepancies in project drawings.
Participates in the coordination and monitoring of snagging and project handover.
Provides support to the resident engineer or team lead to ensure projects run smoothly by providing expert knowledge and advice.
Liaises with the design engineer on modifications if required.
Gives daily site reports and highlights issues that arise on site to the project lead.
Contributes to the preparation of all kinds of reports as directed by the project lead.
Monitors health and safety of the construction works and reports on the same. If required, stops the construction works if unsafe practices are being followed.
Specific skills required- Site experience in basic design requirements, estimation, installation, and all site activities related to all mechanical works for construction of large-scale building projects.
- Familiar with all the mechanical engineering methodologies as well as the corresponding equipment, materials, consumables, tools, and manpower allocations related to mechanical works for building projects.
- Well versed in interpreting and executing mechanical related drawings.
- Knowledge of the related authorities' requirements.
- Experience with high-rise residential villas and commercial buildings required with a strong background in start-up, execution, and handover of major projects.

Good team player with high energy levels. Able to supervise a team of inspectors efficiently and competently.
Qualifications
Qualification:
Bachelor degree in mechanical or equivalent. Plus an advanced postgraduate degree and membership of a recognized institution would be preferred, or a master's degree in mechanical engineering.
Experience:
Minimum 12 years demonstrable experience in the design and all aspects of supervision and project administration of the mechanical works related to large-scale projects within the Middle East/UAE in the consulting industry.
