New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint a Stage Supervisor, Performing Arts Center reporting to the Director of Production and Operations, Performing Arts Center.
The Stage Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all stage operations, ensuring smooth technical execution of performances, rehearsals, and events across multiple venues, including a 700-seat auditorium, a 150-seat recital hall, a flexible 150-capacity black box theater, a screening room, and a rooftop amphitheater that will be used for performance, dinners, film, and other events, and various studios.This role involves coordinating stage crews, managing set changes, maintaining equipment, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. The Stage Supervisor works closely with directors, designers, and production teams to bring artistic visions to life while upholding the highest standards of efficiency and professionalism.
In addition, s/he will collaborate with and mentor NYUAD students developing and presenting work in the Arts Center.
The position will require someone with expert knowledge of rigging and flying systems who is resourceful, adept at problem solving, and able to collaborate with Production and Programming staff in delivering technical support for all Arts Center productions.The Stage Supervisor will report to the Director of Production and contribute to the development of a first-rate production crew. As such, the candidate must combine expert technical knowledge with communication, motivational, and training skills.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as chief stage contact for all live performances at the Arts Center, as necessary, working directly with artists and Production team on the implementation of artists staging needs to ensure world-class production values
- Ensure that all Arts Center or rental gear is accounted for before and after an event prior to loading onto vendor trucks
- Determine and schedule staffing assignments and needs for events. Supervise stage technical staff as needed
- Set up, test, operate, and strike stage scenery equipment, motorized fly system, orchestra lifts and truss as needed for all Arts Center productions
- Coordinate use of equipment between Arts Center venues. Supervise facility changeovers as needed
- Maintain and safeguard the stage equipment of the Arts Center, as well as other technical assets, through the development and implementation of yearly preventative maintenance and asset management inventories
- Perform or arrange for maintenance and repair of equipment as needed. Keep maintenance log records for all equipment
- Work with the Production and Producing team, and others to achieve the desired stage setups for a variety of events including dance, theater, and music productions
- Demonstrate a clear understanding of all stage related technical areas, particularly with a Stage bias: Lifting control consoles, staging systems and equipment, with understanding of Stage principles, carpentry, engineering principles, flying operations, rigging, special effects
- Be available for technical assistance in case of emergencies as necessary
- Attend all production meetings as needed.
- Other duties as assigned
- Willing to work weekends and evenings as required
Qualifications
Required Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Theatre Production, Technical Theatre or Stage Management
- IRATA Level 1
- 5 years or more experience with large scale stage systems operations and maintenance, preferably within a range of disciplines: dance, theatre, and music
- Experience in maintenance, basic repair, and troubleshooting of stage equipment
- Proven experience in HASAWA, PULER, LOLER and working at height regulations
- Superior written and oral communications skills in English
- A capacity to work collegially and flexibly in a startup setting characterized by a complex organizational structure comprising New York University in New York and New York University in Abu Dhabi
- An ability to prioritize and to handle multiple projects on tight deadlines, organized work habits, consistent accuracy, and attentiveness to detail
- Advanced business computing and internet skills
- Professional maturity and judgment consistent with leadership-support responsibilities, including exceptional discretion, confident communications skills, and a capacity for resourceful initiative in a team context
- Expertise with word processing, spreadsheet, database software, PowerPoint and Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to read, draw, and interpret site diagrams, location maps, plots etc.
- Capable of working at elevated heights, 90 and over. Able to lift over 50 pounds
- Excellent communication skills between all areas of production, programming partners, and artists
- Excellent record-keeping, organizational, and multi-tasking skills
- ETCP Certified Rigger / NRC Level 2
- IOSH / NEBOSH
