We are currently looking for a dedicated, full-time health and safety officer to oversee and implement health and safety in school.

Key responsibilities:

• Compliance and regulation: Ensure that the school adheres to all relevant health and safety laws and regulations. Stay informed about changes in legislation and implement necessary updates.
• Risk assessment and management: Conduct regular risk assessments, audits, and inspections to identify potential hazards. Implement measures to mitigate identified risks promptly.
• Emergency preparedness: Develop and maintain emergency response plans for various scenarios (e.g., fires, natural disasters). Conduct regular emergency drills to ensure staff and students are familiar with emergency procedures.
• Training and education: Provide training sessions on health and safety practices, toolbox talks (TBT), emergency response, and the use of safety equipment. Ensure that training is up-to-date and relevant for staff and students.
• Incident investigation and reporting: Investigate incidents that occur at the school. Document findings and report incidents to the appropriate authorities. Analyze trends and recommend actions to prevent future incidents.
• Facility inspection and maintenance: Conduct regular inspections of school facilities to ensure they meet health and safety standards. Address issues related to cleanliness, maintenance, and safety hazards.

This role is pivotal in fostering a culture of safety and ensuring compliance with GEMS policy and ADEK's health and safety standards.

Skills

Main qualification: QFE 7 (Bachelor's degree in health & safety)

OR

Bachelor's degree in another subject and National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health Certification (NEBOSH)

Preferred additional qualification: Course on incident investigation and reporting, accredited first aider and fire fighter, knowledge of ADPHC's electronic OSH reporting system

Experience: Minimum 5 years of health & safety experience (education or facilities management sector experience is preferred)
