Job Purpose
The position of a White-water Team Leader requires an individual to be a key member of Al Ain Adventure leadership team in the White-water Department and to assist the Operations Manager. This person is responsible for the day to day running of the white water operations.
The position requires the individual to lead the team of Raft Guides, Kayak Instructors and River Guards. The position requires the individual to oversee all White-water operations and department staff, giving them constructive comments on their guiding, instructing, rescue and communication techniques.Also to guide rafts, instruct various levels of kayakers, perform rescues where appropriate, and maintain a high level of physical fitness and first aid skills. The ideal candidate must have experience in leading a team in a white-water operation.The position will also require the person to showcase our white-water channels providing world-class entertainment.
Principal Accountabilities- Under the guidance of the Operations Manager the White-water Team Leader will assist with the following:
- Follow the relevant Safety Operation Plans
- Provide constructive feedback to instructors to progress their instructing technique.
- Provide constructive feedback to guides to improve their guiding technique.
- Provide constructive feedback to guests to improve their kayaking and rafting experiences.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment; Comply with safety procedures including the use of required safety equipment and identify unsafe practices and conditions.
- Ensure the safety of all guests participating in white-water activities.
- Ensure safety of all instructors and staff associated with the white-water channels.
- Provide a safe and enthusiastic learning environment for guests.
- Inspect and ensure equipment is safe and used properly by guests and staff.
- Perform health and safety briefings to guests on a daily basis.
- Follow Health and Safety practices as designated by the facility.
- Use quick and accurate judgment and decision making skills during rescue situations.
- Anticipate problems and seize opportunities to prevent injury.
- Respond effectively under pressure.
- Treat all first aid situations with sensitivity and confidentiality.
- Facilitate and participate actively in training sessions to ensure skills are maintained at or above the accepted level.
- Be courteous and professional when interacting with customers and fellow team members.
- Be punctual for work, training sessions and staff meetings.
- Maintain current qualifications throughout the term of employment.
- Identify any white-water related safety issues.
- Complete all paperwork in a timely manner while demonstrating attention to detail.
- Promote and maintain the utmost integrity and the highest calibre of customer service and respect to all guests and other Team Members.
- Be familiar with all the facilities at the Al Ain Adventure including locations and hours of operation.
- Ensure the corporate policies are followed as outlined in the company's Policies and Procedures manual.
- Maintain general awareness of Al Ain Adventure operation at all times and comply with security policies and procedures in order to secure company assets.
- Understand and demonstrate company's core values and customer service standards.
- Perform regular audits on other guides and instructors.
- Keep a high level of fitness.
- Perform other related duties as may be assigned by the Operations Manager.
- High School Graduate Diploma Mandatory
- Minimum of three (3) years experience working as a competent River guide or kayak insructor in a team leader role with up to date log-book.
- 12 hour course valid FAC or equivalent with CPR (the ability to assess preferred).
- White-water rescue training experience, preferably with facilitation experience.
- Must be able to work effectively with peers, team members, and regulatory agency personnel.
- Experienced river guide with the ability to teach by example.
- Ability to lead, coach and mentor intermediate kayakers.
- Ability to implement approved water rescue methods.
- Ability to recognize emergencies and to take effective courses of action.
- Ability to create/interpret a variety of instructions presented in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Computer efficient working with MS Office products preferred.
