As part of our continued growth, we are seeking a Microbial Conservation Genomics Scientist to lead and advance research at the interface of microbial genomics, metagenomics, veterinary science, and biodiversity ecology. This position is designed for a scientist with strong postdoctoral experience who can bridge laboratory molecular approaches and applied ecological and conservation outcomes.

Your Main Role Will Be:

• Lead the design and implementation of end-to-end R&D programmes in microbial metagenomics analyses across environmental and host-associated systems.
• Develop and standardise sampling frameworks and protocols across diverse matrices (e.g., soil, water, faecal, tissue), ensuring scientific rigour, reproducibility, and operational scalability.
• Establish and optimise laboratory and bioinformatics pipelines for metagenomics and microbiome.
• Advance research on host–microbiome interactions in wildlife, with direct applications to conservation biology and health monitoring.
• Perform advanced bioinformatic and statistical analyses, including taxonomic profiling, functional annotation, and community ecology metrics, to characterise microbiome structure, dynamics, and function.
• Work at the interface of genomics, veterinary science, ecology, and biodiversity programmes within the organisation to generate decision-relevant insights supporting conservation management, policy, and applied research.
• Ensure full sample and data traceability, integrity, and reproducibility through structured systems, SOPs, and compliance with quality and biosafety standards.
• Coordinate with laboratory, field, and data teams to ensure efficient project execution and timely delivery of outputs.
• Support capacity building through training, protocol development, and knowledge transfer.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• A PhD in Microbiology, Molecular Ecology, Genomics, or a closely related field.
• Minimum 2–4 years of postdoctoral experience with hands-on experience in microbiome research, metagenomics, or applied genomics, with exposure to both laboratory and computational environments.
• Strong experience in molecular laboratory techniques, including contamination-aware workflows.
• Advanced knowledge of library preparation techniques and metagenomics sequencing using various platforms (e.g., Illumina, Oxford Nanopore).
• Experience with bioinformatics tools and pipelines for microbial and metagenomic data analysis.
• Solid understanding of microbial diversity analyses and functional interpretations.
• Proven ability to work across disciplines and translate research into applied outcomes.
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and project management skills.
• Experience working with large-scale datasets and computational environments (e.g. HPC or cloud platforms).
• Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
