Field Engineer – Marine Robotics Systems Role Overview

The Field Engineer is responsible for carrying out field validation, configuration, and product verification activities for marine robotic systems during mobilization, sea trials, and offshore operations. Working within a development‑to‑deployment validation framework, the engineer ensures that systems meet performance, reliability, and readiness standards before they are fully deployed.

This role is centered on system validation, structured reporting, and technical feedback rather than direct piloting or operation of the vehicles.

Role Purpose

To support the transition of marine robotic platforms from development into reliable, operational products through disciplined field testing, verification, and documentation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and execute field validation activities in line with project schedules and product maturity requirements.
  • Perform structured performance checks and system readiness assessments prior to deployment.
  • Ensure safe and compliant mobilization and demobilization procedures.
  • Conduct risk assessments and support mitigation planning for assigned operations.
  • Validate both internally developed and commercial systems against defined acceptance criteria.
  • Coordinate with engineering and cross‑functional teams to ensure consistent execution of validation tasks.
  • Work closely with project management and HSE teams to maintain compliance with safety standards.
  • Diagnose system‑level issues and contribute to root‑cause investigations.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation, including validation logs, test reports, checklists, and review records.
  • Provide clear, structured feedback to development teams to enhance system robustness.
  • Support the improvement of validation procedures, workflows, and standard operating processes.

Qualifications & Skills

Education Bachelor’s degree or diploma in an engineering discipline relevant to marine, robotics, or systems engineering.

Experience 3–5 years of experience in marine robotics, unmanned systems, or offshore operational environments.

Technical Skills
  • Hands‑on experience with integrated marine robotic platforms.
  • Background in commissioning and validating multi‑disciplinary systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic capability.
  • Familiarity with marine navigation, communication, and power systems.
  • Ability to execute structured test procedures and maintain detailed documentation.
  • Knowledge of ROS or robotic system architectures is advantageous.
Soft Skills
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving mindset.
  • High attention to documentation and process discipline.
  • Clear and structured communication.
  • Strong awareness of safety and operational risk.
  • Ability to work effectively in offshore environments.
Preferred / Bonus Skills
  • Offshore survival or marine safety certifications.
  • Experience supporting sea trials or acceptance testing activities.
