About the Department of Finance Abu Dhabi
Established in 1966 with the objective of strengthening the financial sustainability of the Emirate, DoF is responsible for the development and execution of the Abu Dhabi governments annual budget and for overseeing government returns, expenditures, funding and liquidity.DoF does this by working closely in partnership with the relevant local government entities and the Abu Dhabi Executive Council.
Role Overview
To support the implementation, interpretation, and application of accounting standards, particularly IPSAS, across government entities and central financial reporting processes. The role ensures consistent financial reporting practices aligned with international standards and contributes to the development of accounting policies, guidance, and compliance frameworks under the fiscal governance of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
Essential Duties:
- Assist in the implementation and continuous enhancement of International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) across the Government of Abu Dhabi entities.
- Interpret and analyze new or updated accounting standards and assess their implications on financial reporting practices and government entity compliance.
- Support the development, issuance, and maintenance of accounting manuals, policies, position papers, and technical guidance notes based on IPSAS and other relevant frameworks.
- Conduct technical accounting research and draft briefing notes, interpretations, and responses to inquiries from government entities related to accounting treatments and disclosure requirements.
- Review financial statements and reports from government entities to identify deviations from IPSAS and provide recommendations for corrective action.
- Assist in the consolidation of financial data for central reporting purposes, ensuring consistency in classification, recognition, and measurement across all entities.
- Participate in workshops, training sessions, and technical outreach initiatives to raise awareness and build capacity in accounting standard application across departments.
- Monitor global developments in public sector accounting standards and recommend necessary updates to internal guidance and policies.
- Liaise with audit bodies, financial controllers, and reporting units to support accurate interpretation and implementation of accounting requirements.
- Maintain documentation and working files for technical reviews, ensuring traceability and compliance with audit and internal control requirements.
- Support the automation of accounting standard tools, templates, and compliance tracking within the financial reporting ecosystem.
- Provide the necessary support to the line manager and perform any other related tasks assigned.
Education Qualification:
Bachelor&aposs degree or higher in Finance, Accounting or equivalent.
Experience:
Preferable to have 3 to 6 years of experience in a similar field/position.
