Position overview

We are currently recruiting for an advisor to join our health and safety team in Dubai.

Scope

Responsible for developing and implementing the health and safety management system at Transguard worksites and ensuring its compliance with international safety standards (ISO 45001 & 14001). This position will develop guidelines in coordination with the health and safety manager for the management of operations and standards.

The advisor will be a provider of information, giving technical guidance on all health, safety, wellbeing, and environmental matters, identifying and advising on current and future requirements, and ensuring that systems, policies, and processes are in place to prevent incidents and support the continuing development of a health and safety culture across the organization.

Responsibilities

Financial
  • Implement organizational and client health and safety policies and procedures in compliance with ISO 45001:2018, 14001:2015, and any other health and safety standard applicable to the worksite.
  • Advise the business on health and safety matters and assist in the implementation of a health and safety management system.
  • Conduct periodic safety inspections to identify health and safety hazards at the workplace or premises and ensure these hazards are minimized by implementing adequate control measures.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable legal requirements pertaining to health, safety, and environment.
  • Manage and coordinate all health and safety matters related to business units in compliance with health and safety requirements, such as specifications, safety codes, legal requirements, and Transguard policies and procedures.
  • Carry out regular site visits to Transguard accommodations to ensure safety standards are implemented and practiced.
  • Conduct building safety assessments for Transguard accommodations.
Customer
  • Coordinate within the business unit to conduct occupational risk and opportunity/environmental aspects and impact assessments for prudently managing health and safety risks and creating opportunities for continual improvement in their respective areas.
  • Work closely with the Transguard clientu2019s health and safety representatives to ensure staff are aware of and following their health and safety procedures. Attend client meetings whenever required.
  • Conduct health and safety awareness training sessions within the organization to promote safety culture and carry out or arrange job-specific training for operatives.
  • Verify the permit to work system and implement a safe system of work to ensure operational activities are carried out with all safety precautions in place, where applicable.
  • Perform any other business-related tasks assigned by the line manager.
Process
  • Prepare all necessary health and safety documents as per client and legal requirements for any new sites before mobilization and ensure they are followed and regularly revised to include any changes.
  • Conduct internal audits as per schedule and attend audits with external auditors and clients whenever required.
  • Ensure that all health and safety data is maintained on the shared folder/SharePoint in a timely manner.
Innovation
  • Investigate health and safety incidents and non-compliance events to determine root causes and recommend remedial actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Identify any patterns in lagging indicators that may require further investigation and improvement across the business and within individual business units.
  • Ensure the tracking and maintenance of all records and documents related to health and safety, such as training and investigation reports.
Selection criteria
  • 4-5 years of experience in a similar field.
  • Bachelor's degree in science, health and safety, or equivalent from a recognized university.
  • Airport experience would be a plus.
  • Any recognized qualification in health and safety, such as NEBOSH IGC or NVQ.
  • Lead/internal auditor qualification in health and safety management system (ISO 45001/14001).
  • Basic first aid and firefighting training.
  • Any internationally accredited environmental certificate will be preferable.
  • Good knowledge in implementing health and safety standards, including policies/procedures and ISO standards such as ISO 45001 and 14001.
  • Working knowledge of project execution and technical knowledge of safety systems such as firefighting systems.
  • Knowledge of UAE health and safety legislation, codes of practice, municipality guidelines, OSHAD, or other emirates health and safety regulations.
  • Holding a valid UAE driving license.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office.
  • Good report writing skills.
