Job Description
The Cost Engineer will support the client-side commercial team in the post-contract delivery of Mixed-use developments. The role will assist in day-to-day cost and commercial activities from contract award through to project close-out, supporting cost control, reporting, and the management of external consultants under the guidance of senior commercial staff.
This position will work closely with cost consultants and internal stakeholders, helping to ensure cost data is accurate, reports are timely, and project budgets are properly tracked. The role offers exposure to all aspects of post-contract commercial management on large-scale developments.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial Support- Support the client-side commercial team on assigned projects/packages.
- Assist in maintaining commercial governance frameworks, processes, and reporting standards.
- Help prepare commercial information and inputs for management review.
- Support alignment of commercial activities with project objectives and financial targets.
- Liaise day-to-day with appointed consultants including LDC, cost consultants, etc.
- Assist in the review of cost reports, payment certifications, variation assessments, and draft final accounts prepared by consultants.
- Cross-check consultant deliverables for consistency and accuracy, flagging issues to senior team members.
- Track consultant submissions against contractual obligations and reporting timelines.
- Help monitor project cost performance against approved budgets.
- Assist in compiling cost forecasts, cash flows, and financial reports.
- Maintain commitment, expenditure, and cost-to-complete trackers.
- Highlight cost risks and opportunities to senior staff for action.
- Assist in the day-to-day administration of FIDIC contracts.
- Support the processing of variations, payment certifications, and extensions of time under supervision.
- Help draft and log contractual correspondence and notices.
- Maintain organized records of contractual events to support dispute avoidance.
- Assist in the evaluation of variations and contractor claims under senior guidance.
- Help ensure changes are properly documented and instructed.
- Carry out initial reviews of entitlement, quantum, and contractual compliance for senior review.
- Maintain change and claims registers.
- Support commercial due diligence tasks for design development and procurement.
- Assist in assessing cost implications of design changes and value engineering proposals.
- Help maintain risk registers and trackers across packages.
- Prepare draft commercial reports and presentations for senior review.
- Provide accurate data and inputs on project financial status, risks, and forecasts.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders (development, design, finance, project management) and external parties (consultants, contractors).
- Support general project reporting requirements.
- Assist in the review and agreement of final accounts prepared by cost consultants.
- Support commercial close-out activities for contracts.
- Help capture lessons learned, benchmarking data, and cost intelligence for future projects.
- Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Engineering, or related discipline.
- 2–5 years of relevant experience, ideally with a developer, client-side organization, consultancy, or contractor.
- Exposure to post-contract commercial activities on construction or development projects (residential/mixed-use/masterplan preferred).
- Working knowledge of FIDIC contracts.
- Familiarity with cost control, variations, and payment processes.
- Awareness of European construction practices and EU procurement is an advantage.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical mindset.
- Good understanding of commercial processes and basic contract mechanisms.
- Numerate, with solid Excel and reporting skills.
- Organized, able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to learn and take direction from senior commercial staff.
- Collaborative approach with consultants, contractors, and internal teams.
