General Overview:

We are supporting our client in the Gulf region to hire an experienced Senior Life Underwriter to strengthen their underwriting function. This role plays a critical part in evaluating life, accident, and health insurance risks while ensuring compliance with underwriting standards, medical guidelines, and regulatory requirements.

The successful candidate will contribute to high-quality risk assessment, support underwriting excellence, and collaborate closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver accurate, timely, and well-informed underwriting decisions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess life, accident, and health insurance risks and determine appropriate underwriting terms and conditions.
  • Analyze risk exposures and review insurance applications, ensuring all required documentation supports accurate risk evaluation.
  • Recommend and review additional medical records, special examinations, and investigative reports as required.
  • Evaluate medical case histories, laboratory results, and related documentation for completeness and accuracy.
  • Present complex or high-risk cases to senior underwriting authorities when required.
  • Communicate underwriting decisions, requirements, and timelines clearly to applicants, agents, and healthcare providers.
  • Manage complex underwriting cases and ensure timely follow-up on pending requirements.
  • Ensure full compliance with internal underwriting policies, regulatory guidelines, AML requirements, and reporting obligations.
  • Utilize and support auto-underwriting systems, including rule interpretation, testing, and product implementation.
  • Participate in underwriting framework development, product reviews, and system enhancements as needed.
  • Stay updated on legislative, regulatory, and market developments impacting underwriting practices.

Key Requirements:

  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in life insurance underwriting, with strong exposure to medical underwriting.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a medical-related field such as Pharmacy, Dentistry, Physical Therapy, or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, medical terminology, laboratory tests, and disease processes.
  • Proven experience underwriting Life, Accident, and Health insurance risks.
  • Demonstrated expertise in risk profiling and making sound medical and financial underwriting decisions.
  • Hands-on experience with auto-underwriting systems and underwriting rule frameworks.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical ability, attention to detail, and structured decision-making approach.
  • Relevant professional qualifications and certifications are highly desirable.
  • LOMA / ALU certifications are preferred.
