Job description

Role purpose:

The BIM modeler/drafter will create precise engineering drawings and 3D models for wet utility systems, ensuring compliance with project requirements and industry standards. This role requires expertise in Civil 3D, Revit, and Navisworks to develop clash-free designs for water, wastewater, storm drainage, and irrigation networks.

Key responsibilities & accountabilities:

Design & modeling:

• Model and design complete wet utility systems (potable water, firewater, wastewater, storm drainage, irrigation)
• Prepare comprehensive drawing packages including plans, layouts, schematics, and detailed scale drawings
• Develop Civil 3D models at LOD 300-400 for pressure and gravity networks
• Create combined utilities drawings and coordinate with other disciplines to resolve clashes
• Modify BIM models using sketches, markups, and design inputs to reflect updates and changes

Technical execution:

• Prepare design profile drawings for pressure/gravity networks using Civil 3D
• Perform clash detection (pipes, valve rooms, conduits) using Navisworks and resolve conflicts
• Generate fabrication drawings as required, adhering to relevant standards
• Produce schematic drawings and assist in sizing calculations
• Maintain parametric data within models to meet design specifications

Quality & coordination:

• Conduct model reviews to verify accuracy of 3D models and 2D deliverables
• Ensure all deliverables meet internal, client, and industry standards
• Collaborate with engineers to interpret designs and resolve modeling challenges
• Review combined utilities routing, identify conflicts, and propose solutions
• Address QA/QC feedback to improve output quality and prevent recurring issues
• Organize and manage models in compliance with company standards and BIM Execution Plan
• Prepare submissions for client review, plotting, and archival
• Meet project deadlines while maintaining high quality standards
• Maintain organized project directories and documentation

Skills:

Technical proficiency:

• Advanced skills in Civil 3D (pressure/gravity networks, profiles)
• Expertise in Revit (parametric modeling, family creation)
• Strong Navisworks skills (clash detection, 4D simulation)
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, BIM 360, or other collaboration tools
• Understanding of construction practices for buildable models

Qualifications

Education & experience:

• Diploma degree in civil engineering or related field
• 4-7 years of BIM modeling experience, specifically in wet utilities
• Proven experience with large-scale infrastructure projects
