General Description
The Quantity Surveyor will administer and assist Site Operations in payment applications and variation claims for dewatering. The post holder will support the tender process providing relevant reports, assistance, and documentation control. The person will ensure reconciliation of project cost estimates pertaining to post-award claims, bills of quantities and other tender documents.
Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities- Review and analyze all active contracts, identifying key terms and producing detailed reports covering Scope of Work, Responsibilities, Plans and Drawings, BOQ, Payment Terms, and Submission Requirements (e.g., insurances, bonds).
- Lead tender processes, including updates to risk assessments (GO-NOGO, Financial, Contractual, and Project-Specific Risk) through internal systems (CRM, MCS).
- Take ownership of contract and project reviews, ensuring alignment with commercial and operational targets.
- Track and report on payment terms, project expenditures, and financial performance across multiple projects.
- Maintain comprehensive records of work and implement effective document control practices.
- Prepare cost estimates and manage progressive payment applications in line with contractual terms.
- Develop and maintain cost monitoring systems for concurrently running projects.
- Compile documentation and generate reports to support variations, claims, and invoicing for contracts and subcontracts.
- Produce regular and ad hoc commercial reports for internal stakeholders.
- Assist in the evaluation and documentation of early warnings, compensation events, variation claims, and arbitration processes.
- Review and validate invoices for accuracy in format, scope, and amounts; reconcile payment variances and compile supporting documentation.
- Support Site Operations and Finance in negotiating and finalizing claims, as well as subcontract closeouts.
- Attend site and client meetings as needed or as directed by the Commercial Manager.
- Maintain a strong understanding of the company's QHSE policies and procedures.
- Continuously monitor project work against specifications to ensure quality standards are met.
- Promptly report any defects, errors, or quality issues to the Line Manager.
- Ensure completion and accuracy of applicable quality checklists and related documentation.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to mitigate risks during bidding, contract analysis, and project execution.
- Identify and escalate issues or opportunities to the Line Manager while facilitating collaborative resolution.
- Deliver internal training sessions on commercial and contract management best practices and updates.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (Quantity Surveying is preferable) is required.
- Minimum 3 years Commercial experience in civil / sub-structure related projects with a leading contractor in GCC is required.
- Sound knowledge of the principles of Quantity Surveying and experience in applying its techniques.
- Knowledge and Experience with drafting, reviewing, and negotiating Contracts and Subcontracts.
- The ability to recognize risk and opportunities within contracts, mitigate against them and/or request variations.
- Keen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills, which support and enable sound decision making.
- Good experience in project management with an emphasis on working with internal and external stakeholders. As well as managing, assessing, and reviewing the work of other staff, consultants and contractors.
- Knowledge of Microsoft applications.
- Good knowledge of construction.
