Employment: Full Time

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for providing expertise and ensuring the application of correct standards in onshore feasibility, conceptual, basic engineering, FEED, detailed design, and development of projects associated with oil and gas processing, production, and export of oil and gas.
  • Assume responsibility for assigned pipeline engineering work scopes.
  • Review any design work carried out by third parties (vendors) and participate in reliability studies, and safety and facilities technical audits.
  • Establish the actual (as opposed to design) capacities/capabilities of existing field facilities to identify potential bottlenecks and scope for optimization.
  • Overall responsibility for scheduling and monitoring the quality of the work procedure.
  • Plan, budget, organize, and control a segment of the pipeline engineering deliverables for the project.
  • Prepare pipeline deliverables for a project in the oil and gas industry, and ensure that they conform to all applicable engineering codes and standards as well as the client's policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that all work is completed without compromise to quality and is delivered according to the project schedule.
  • Liaise with the client's engineering, operations, and maintenance staff as required to ensure a consistent approach to project completion.
  • Fully understand the company HSE policy, procedures, regulations, and objectives as they relate to the area of responsibility.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines during all stages of design development, construction, pre-commissioning, and start-up.
  • Assist in the coordination of all activities related to pipeline engineering design.
  • Identify any areas of concern with respect to progress and/or quality and recommend corrective actions as required.
  • Mentor and coach young pipeline engineers, provide advice to peers in this field.
  • Able to travel to Basra, Iraq as and when required.
  • Promote safe behavior at all times.
Key Accountabilities
  • Develop the pipeline design basis.
  • Pipeline route selection, right-of-way width selection, crossing method selection, trenching/backfilling design.
  • Manage site visit, survey, and data collection.
  • Review and perform pipeline design activities such as mechanical calculations, expansion/anchor forces calculations, buoyancy, ovality/buckling check, road/rail crossing, river crossing, fault crossing analysis, pipeline stress analysis using Caesar-II/AutoPIPE software.
  • Knowledge of design, materials, construction, fabrication, inspection, and testing of pipeline items.
  • Review and prepare pipeline materials/items, coating, inspection, testing, and installation specifications/datasheets.
  • Review and prepare pipeline material requisition, perform technical bid evaluation/analysis, and vendor data review.
  • Provide material take-off and bill of material.
  • Be aware of safety aspects of design in relation to the project cycle, e.g., HAZID, HAZOP, QRA, and risk analysis techniques.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, Caesar II/AutoPIPE, and awareness of ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Navisworks.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree qualification in mechanical engineering.
  • Total experience of at least 15 years with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience in an engineering design company as a lead pipeline engineer.
  • Experience of working with multinational and multicultural project teams is strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience of working in the Middle East would be an advantage.
  • Experience of sour service operations would be an advantage.
  • Familiar with the typical software packages that are used for pipeline engineering design.
