Overview
A leading European private equity firm is seeking an private equity firm & Automation Intern to join their Sustainability Team for a 6-month placement. This role focuses on embedding practical private equity firm solutions into sustainability workflows and portfolio initiatives, sitting at the intersection of applied private equity firm, data, and ESG.The position emphasizes building working tools rather than producing analysis, with a clear bias toward shipping functional prototypes that improve decision-making across the firm and its portfolio companies.
The internship offers the opportunity to work with confidential portfolio data within an approved enterprise environment, with access to sanctioned LLM tooling and a clearly defined technical mentor alongside business sponsorship from the Sustainability team.
Key Responsibilities- Lead development of one flagship private equity firm project selected from: an internal ESG copilot for sustainability queries, an automated document-parsing tool for ESG data extraction, or a regulations reporting assistant
- Support collection, cleaning, and structuring of ESG data across portfolio companies including carbon emissions, KPIs, and regulatory metrics
- Contribute to dashboards and reporting for decarbonization tracking and reporting readiness
- Identify and implement small automations to reduce friction in the Sustainability team's recurring tasks
- Conduct research on private equity firm applications in sustainability and private equity
- Support portfolio companies on private equity firm-driven ESG improvements when requested
- Contribute to internal thought leadership on private equity firm and sustainability integration
- Master's student in computer science, data science, private equity firm, engineering, or closely related field
- Strong Python skills including pandas, API integration, and basic data pipelines
- Hands-on experience with LLM-based tools or agent frameworks such as OpenAI/Anthropic/Mistral APIs, LangChain, LlamaIndex, n8n, or Make
- Solid Excel proficiency; SQL and BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, Metabase) advantageous
- Ability to read documentation and rapidly ship working prototypes
- Prototype mindset with bias toward testing small solutions quickly rather than designing perfect long-term solutions
- Pragmatic focus on building tools that get used rather than tools that impress
- Strong communication skills to explain technical outputs to non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to switch between projects and adapt to changing priorities
- Fluency in English and French required; additional European languages preferred
- Awareness of GDPR and basic data security practices
- Enterprise access to sanctioned LLM tooling for building on real internal data within secure parameters
- Dedicated technical mentor for code reviews and architecture guidance alongside business sponsorship
- Defined flagship project with named internal users from day one rather than vague mandate
