Job purpose

Undertake reservoir simulation studies to attain stated objectives and translate results into operational guidelines.

Key accountabilities

• Coordinate and work with geoscientists on reservoir characterization and upscaling.
• Build sizable full field simulation models, history match, and use them in predictions.
• Conduct quality check and consistency of simulation model, history match scenarios with respect to geological model characteristics.
• Develop characterization of reservoir fluids and Equation of State (EOS) modelling, calibration and convert simple black oil models to compositional. Diagnose model convergence and run-time problems.
• Coordinate with technical centre in designing IOR/EOR methods (water injection, immiscible gas injection, miscible gas injection, and surfactant and polymer injection) to enhance recovery and pressure maintenance methods.
• Apply different methods of reserves estimation using probabilistic and deterministic methods (material balance, decline curve analysis, and simulation model sensitivities).
• Identify required action using simulation models to maximize recovery, meet current production quotas, design, follow up, quality control, and analyse reservoir studies such as reservoir characterization analysis, special core analysis, and pressure-volume-temperature studies.
• Conduct special simulation studies for field development optimization (well spacing, infill wells, advanced wells, pilots).
• Apply multiphase flow in the reservoir, effective permeability concept, and correlations for relative permeability. Integrate pressure and production test results for reservoir simulation and management decisions.
• Contribute to reservoir monitoring program and data gathering with effective cost program to enable collecting necessary data to help best reservoir management and reduce uncertainties.
• Liaise with contractors conducting the study, analyse and review findings, and action study recommendations. Participate in periodic update and validation of database with monthly production and injection data and descriptions to display wells, reservoir, and field performance for appropriate distribution and simulation model recalibration.

Generic accountabilities

• Plan, supervise, and coordinate all activities in the assigned area to meet functional objectives.
• Train and develop the assigned staff on relevant skills to enable them to become proficient on the job and deliver the respective section objectives.

• Provide input for preparation of the department and section budgets, assist in the implementation of the approved budget, and work plans to deliver section objectives.
• Investigate and highlight any significant variances to support effective performance and cost control.

• Implement approved department and section policies, processes, systems, standards, and procedures in order to support execution of the department and section's work programs in line with company and international standards.
• Comply with all applicable legislation and legal regulations.

• Contribute to the achievement of the approved performance objectives for the department and section in line with the company performance framework.

• Design and implement new tools and techniques to improve the quality and efficiency of operational processes.
• Identify improvements in internal processes against best practices in pursuit of greater efficiency in line with ISO standards in order to define intelligent solutions for issues confronting the function.

• Comply with the ADNOC Onshore and ADNOC HSE procedure requirements.
• Report all incidents and occupational illness to line supervisor.
• If aware of any unsafe practice or condition, or if in any doubt about the safety of any situation, immediately consult the line supervisor.
• Carry out the emergency responsibilities in line with the respective roles as per the emergency organization.
• Be familiar with the ADNOC HSE Recognition and Accountability Framework requirements. Comply with all applicable HSE requirements at all times. Exercise the STOP Work Authority bestowed if any unsafe act or situation puts you or your colleagues at risk.

• Provide inputs to prepare section management information system and progress reports for company management.

Qualifications, experience, knowledge & skills

• Bachelor degree in reservoir, petroleum, chemical engineering or equivalent.

• Eight years of experience in reservoir engineering including oil and gas fields' development management and full field simulation studies using software models.
• Reservoir and production operations knowledge.
• Analytical reservoir characterization (material balance) knowledge.
• Numerical reservoir simulation (Eclipse, Intersect).
• Pressure transient analysis and well performance knowledge, PVT modelling.
