The key objectives for this role are:
- Ensuring the structural integrity and performance of static equipment such as pressure vessels, heat exchangers, and storage tanks
- Developing maintenance strategies to improve the reliability and lifespan of static equipment
- Ensuring all equipment meets applicable codes, standards, and safety regulations
- Conducting root cause analyses of equipment failures and implementing corrective measures
- Providing technical expertise during procurement, installation, and commissioning phases
- Enhancing equipment performance and efficiency through innovative design and operational improvements
Responsibilities
Key accountabilities and responsibilities:
- Develop and refine detailed FEA models of static equipment components (e.g., pressure vessels, heat exchangers, storage tanks, piping, structural supports, columns, reactors, fired heaters, etc.)
- Perform various analyses such as protection against plastic collapse, local failure, cyclic loading, ratchetting assessment, buckling analysis, and vibration assessment such as modal and harmonic in accordance with international codes and standards
- Expertise in advanced FEA concepts, including non-linear analysis, contact analysis, plasticity, creep, fatigue, and fracture mechanics
- Proven experience with ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC), particularly Section VIII, Division 1 & 2
- Experience with API standards (e.g., API 650, API 579/FFS) is an added advantage
- Strong understanding of solid mechanics, material science, heat transfer, and dynamics
- Apply appropriate boundary conditions, loads (pressure, thermal, external forces, seismic), and material properties to accurately simulate real-world conditions
- Review, interpret, and validate FEA results, comparing them against analytical calculations, code requirements (e.g., ASME BPVC Section VIII Div. 1 & 2, API, TEMA), and industry best practices
- Develop and validate FEA models using appropriate meshing techniques and boundary conditions
- Analyze results, review work of external third party/contractor submitted FEA reports with appropriate design recommendations
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to provide insights for design optimization, material selection, and identification of critical areas with a focus on problem solving
- Recommend design modifications to improve equipment performance, extend service life, reduce manufacturing costs, and enhance safety
- Support modifications to existing equipment; support failure analysis, fitness-for-service assessments, and design optimization
- Provide technical recommendations for repair/replacement or mitigation strategies based on FEA findings
- Maintain documentation and ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards
- Prepare comprehensive FEA reports, including model descriptions, assumptions, input data, results (stress contours, deformations), conclusions, and recommendations
- Present FEA findings to internal and external stakeholders clearly and concisely
- Maintain detailed records of analysis work, including models, input files, and reports
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers as needed
- Knowledge of scripting or automation within FEA tools (e.g., APDL, Python)
- Exposure to multi-physics simulations (thermal-structural, fluid-structure interaction)
- Ensure all FEA work adheres to company specifications and relevant industry codes, standards, and regulatory requirements (e.g., ASME, API, TEMA, EN, PED)
- Stay updated with the latest revisions of applicable codes and standards
- Proficiently use leading FEA software packages such as ANSYS Mechanical/Workbench, Abaqus, etc.
- Utilize CAD software for model preparation (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD, etc.)
- Collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders and communicate technical information clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences
Qualifications

Qualification:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required; master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline is preferred
- Minimum 15 years of experience in the oil & gas industry, with at least 4-5 years specifically focused on static equipment design and FEA
- Proficiency in FEA tools such as ANSYS, PV Elite, or similar
- Experience with offshore static equipment and brownfield modifications is preferred
- Familiarity with ADNOC specifications and applicable international codes (ASME, API, EN)
