Khalifa University and the College of Computing and Mathematical Sciences seek a dynamic and dedicated individual for the position of Senior Lab Engineer in the Computer and Information Engineering (CIE) Department with specialization in Robotics and AI
Position Overview:
As a Lab Engineer, you will collaborate with CIE Department faculty to support undergraduate Robotics labs in areas such as:
- Software control and motion planning for mobile and manipulator robots
- Autonomous navigation using sensor fusion (LIDAR, IMU, camera)
- Robot sensing and SLAM
- Robotic kinematics, dynamics, and control theory
- Manipulation and grasping techniques
- Machine learning and AI in robotics
- Design, simulation, and testing of robotic systems
Job Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with CIE Department faculty involved in the course and organize the lab teaching schedule
- Instruct assigned lab courses, oversee students lab activities, and assess student work
- Prepare or update the lab manual in accordance with the course curriculum
- Manage the inventory of laboratory equipment and consumables, as well as lab software.
- Ensure that all laboratory activities comply with applicable EHS regulations, policies, and guidelines.
- Provide laboratory health and safety inductions for users, and conduct routine maintenance and calibration of equipment to maintain accuracy and efficiency in experimental results.
- Support academic and research initiatives of the department and participate in student-related events.
- Take part in the ongoing development and modification of undergraduate programs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering, with a strong academic record.
- At least 2 years of relevant experience, including proficiency in:
- Programming languages: C++, Python
- ROS2 and simulation tools such as Gazebo, RViz, and visualization pipelines
- Integration of robotic sensors: IMUs, LIDAR, cameras, encoders
- Signal processing and real-time control for robotic systems
- Embedded platforms (e.g., Arduino, STM32, Raspberry Pi, NVIDIA Jetson)
- Quanser platforms and QUARC real-time control software
- Experience with robotic modelling and control tools such (MATLAB/Simulink)
