MEP Electrical Design Engineer

Job Description

Job Purpose:

To perform design and engineering functions related to electrical systems in MEP projects, ensuring compliance with client specifications, relevant codes, and industry best practices for commercial, residential, and industrial projects.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design electrical systems including lighting, power distribution, fire alarm, emergency systems, and ELV (Extra-Low Voltage) systems as per project requirements.
• Prepare load schedules, single-line diagrams (SLDs), voltage drop calculations, and panel board schedules.
• Review and interpret project specifications, drawings, and BOQs.
• Coordinate with other disciplines (Mechanical, Civil, Architect) to ensure integrated project delivery.
• Ensure electrical design complies with international codes (e.g., NEC, IEC, BS) and local authority requirements (e.g., DEWA, ADDC, SEWA).
• Prepare detailed engineering drawings using AutoCAD or Revit.
• Participate in value engineering and cost optimization initiatives.
• Assist in preparing technical submittals, material specifications, and shop drawings.
• Attend design coordination meetings with consultants, clients, and contractors.
• Support project teams during execution to resolve technical issues.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor&aposs Degree in Electrical Engineering (preferably with MEP specialization).
• Minimum of 58 years of relevant experience in MEP electrical design, preferably in the UAE or GCC.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Dialux/Relux, and electrical design software.
• Familiar with DEWA, ADDC, and other local authority regulations.
• Strong knowledge of international electrical standards (NEC, IEC, BS).
• Good understanding of mechanical and plumbing coordination.
• Excellent communication and report writing skills.

Preferred Certifications:

• DEWA/ADDC Approval (preferred)
• PMP or equivalent (a plus)
• LEED/AP or sustainability knowledge (optional)
