Job purpose
Evaluate and develop opportunities in the form of investors to invest in hydrogen business at future partnership and collaboration in the target areas in line with strategy of the Downstream Marketing and Trading Directorate. Engage and work constructively with internal and external parties and stakeholders to achieve alignment throughout the engagement process with potential investors.
Develop and foster formal and informal networks within the local and international hydrogen industry players with the objective of understanding and identifying specific opportunities to ADNOC, and proactively using the knowledge to bring value to ADNOC.
Key accountabilities
Business development- Support identification, evaluation and execution of business development initiatives related to hydrogen and derivatives (including LH2, LOHC, SAF, ammonia, e-fuels, etc.) and opportunities designed to stimulate growth of the business and increase ADNOC revenue.
- Continuously map and monitor market needs and trends to identify new opportunities and potential lead investors for hydrogen business.
- Manage and establish investor portfolio by frequently reviewing the opportunity pipeline.
- Qualify investor pipeline leads and identify specific opportunities focusing on such aspects as attractiveness and strategic focus. Make initial contact and identify key stakeholders.
- Collect and capture necessary data and needs about investors and identify critical success factors to build relationships. Use publicly available information and complement by building up relationship with key stakeholders.
- Offer solutions based on company strategy. Work out conservative assumptions for value assessments from reference cases if specific information is not accessible.
- Prepare negotiations and contract based on facts. Work out potential scenarios, define negotiation lines and potential follow-up scenarios.
- Trace performance and compliance against contractual agreement and potentially carry out handover and onboarding.
- Support negotiations of joint study and other similar agreements.
- Support execution of commercial elements of pilots and demonstration projects.
- Support the governance and asset management of ADNOC clean hydrogen joint ventures.
- Develop techno-economic feasibility studies of shortlisted opportunities to deliver growth and maximize economic value from the downstream operations and resources.
- Conduct necessary due diligence and market analysis to identify areas of opportunity and recommend deals that may add value to ADNOC's downstream industry, marketing and trading strategy.
- Evaluate potential of the new technologies from the techno-commercial and market point of view.
- Plan, supervise and coordinate all activities in the assigned area to meet functional objectives.
- Train and develop the assigned staff on relevant skills to enable them to become proficient on the job and deliver the respective section objectives.
- Provide input for preparation of the division's budgets and assist in the implementation of the approved budget and work plans to deliver division objectives.
- Investigate and highlight any significant variances to support effective performance and cost control.
Policies, systems, processes and procedures
Implement approved division policies, processes, systems, standards and procedures in order to support execution of the division work programs in line with company and international standards.
Performance management
Contribute to the achievement of the approved performance objectives for the division in line with the company performance framework.
Innovation and continuous improvement- Design and implement new tools and techniques to improve the quality and efficiency of operational processes.
- Identify improvements in internal processes against best practices in pursuit of greater efficiency in line with ISO standards in order to define intelligent solutions for issues confronting the function.
Health, safety, environment (HSE) and sustainability
Comply with relevant HSE policies, procedures and controls and applicable legislation and sustainability guidelines in line with international standards, best practices and ADNOC code of practices.
Reports
Provide inputs to prepare section MIS and progress reports for company management.
Communications and working relationships
Internal- Frequent work related contact with immediate line manager, peers, team members and directorate senior management on matters related to the division's operations, strategy, policies, administration, manpower, HSE and integrity and specific tasks.
- Frequent contact with all division staff within the directorate and ADNOC DM&T companies as required.
- Regular contact with staff from upstream, finance and investment and other directorates for techno-commercial discussions.
- Regular contacts with top management of overseas and national shareholders, customers, suppliers and joint venture partners in discussions, negotiations and at board meetings.
- Energy industry participants and stakeholders at various levels.
- Regular contacts with ADNOC and Abu Dhabi subsidiaries, ventures and partners and with technical collaborators, project and business consultants and outsourcing service providers.
- Regular contact with consultants and suppliers on matters related to acquisition of services.
- Occasional contact with government organisations and entities such as Abu Dhabi Executive Council, Ministry of Energy, Department of Economic Development, Abu Dhabi Investment Authorities and Gulf Cooperation Council, etc.
Qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills
Minimum qualification
Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or equivalent. Master's degree is an advantage.
Minimum experience, knowledge and skills- 10 years' experience in refining, chemical or clean energy industry.
- Exposure to multiple products and chemistries within the downstream and chemical industry is an advantage.
- Experience in alternative energy technologies and clean power is an advantage.
- Experience working in international and multicultural or cross-cultural environments.
- Experience in analytical data-driven thinking, problem solving and decision-making.
- Work with engineering, technology and consultancy companies to get the most benefit from them and analyzing data to create the right decisions.
