Industrial Hygienist
Job Purpose
Provides technical support to the Company in the systematic identification, assessment, monitoring and remedial action planning of chemical, physical, biological, psychosocial and ergonomic hazards and of risks at a level of ALARP ( As Low As Reasonably Practicable ) within the plants, and ensures compliance with ADNOC and other legal requirements.
Job Specific Accountabilities (Part 1)
Inspections and Evaluations:- Conducts Health Risk Assessment inspections, including Walk Through Surveys, with respect to physical, chemical, biological, ergonomic and psychosocial hazards to ensure compliance with health regulations.
- Conducts ergonomic assessments of work stations and field operations, distributes information and explains industrial hygiene procedures and regulations to employees and contractors.
- Prepares Occupational Health Hazard Assessment Plans and suggests control measures to maintain exposure As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP).
- Prepares Industrial Hygiene programmes, procedures and guidelines and a long term execution plan.
- Prepares risk matrices and work place monitoring records for Occupational Health.
- Prepares Industrial Hygiene reports to the supervisor and management.
- Identifies critical health hazards.
- Delivers training and awareness sessions on Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Health topics, to employees and contractors to ensure that they are aware of the hazards at each relevant function and level.
- Conducts monitoring of personnel in accordance with the company Exposure Assessment Strategy (EAS) and maintains updated records of the results.
- Updates the company's Health Risk Assessment as new information becomes available.
- Suggests modifications and new control measures to improve Industrial Hygiene monitoring.
- Performs respirator fitness testing in compliance with company procedures.
- Documents fitness tests in accordance with the company's Respiratory Protection Procedure.
- Presents respiratory protection and hearing conservation training.
- Prepares an inventory of hazardous materials in the Refinery.
- Reconciles material safety data sheets for each hazardous material with unit inventories.
- Prepares hazard training according to the inventory of hazardous materials in each area.

Supervision- Plan, supervise and coordinate all activities in the assigned area to meet functional objectives.
- Train and develop the assigned staff on relevant skills to enable them to become proficient on the job and deliver the respective section objectives.
- Provide input for preparation of the Department/ Section budgets and assist in the implementation of the approved Budget and work plans to deliver Section objectives.
- Investigate and highlight any significant variances to support effective performance and cost control.
- Implement approved Department / Section policies, processes, systems, standards and procedures in order to support execution of the Department / Section's work programs in line with Company and International standards.
- Comply with all applicable legislation and legal regulations.
- Contribute to the achievement of the approved Performance Objectives for the Department / Section in line with the Company Performance framework.
- Design and implement new tools and techniques to improve the quality and efficiency of operational processes.
- Identify improvements in internal processes against best practices in pursuit of greater efficiency in line with ISO standards in order to define intelligent solutions for issues confronting the function.
- Comply with relevant HSE policies, procedures & controls and applicable legislation and sustainability guidelines in line with international standards, best practices and ADNOC Code of Practices

Contact with external parties including consultants, third party service providers, and government agencies as required
Minimum Qualification- B.Sc in Industrial Hygiene or relevant discipline with specialization in physical, chemical or biological science or a Diploma in a related field.
- The above qualifications should meet the eligibility requirements for membership of the American Board of Industrial Hygienists (ABIH) or another recognized international Industrial Hygienist Board.
Minimum Experience, Knowledge & Skills
5 years' experience in Industrial Hygiene preferably within the oil and gas industry.
Skills:- Knowledge of the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienist (ACGIH) exposure guidelines.
- Knowledge of the Occupational Safety and Health Association's Personal Exposure Limits (PEL).
- Knowledge of the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) exposure limits (REL)
- Knowledge of local and international standards for Industrial Hygiene.
- Familiar with general health and industrial hygiene aspects of a large industrial setting and associated utilities
- Ability to work effectively with multiple levels of operation and maintenance personnel
- Ability to generate internal reports and conduct formal presentations in English
- Skilled at instrumentation including real time monitoring equipment
- Knowledge of record-keeping practices and research techniques
- Computer literate
- Possess a UAE driving licence
- Good command of oral and written English. Arabic language is preferable.
