finera is seeking a Merchant Settlements Officer to join the Finance team in Dubai. This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of merchant settlement processes across payment systems and internal financial records.
The position plays a key role in managing day-to-day settlement operations, supporting merchant fund flows, and resolving settlement-related queries and discrepancies. You will work closely with Finance, Operations, Account Management, and payment partners to maintain financial control, ensure settlement transparency, and deliver a high standard of merchant support.
Operating within a fast-paced fintech environment, the role also provides exposure to multi-currency and digital asset (cryptocurrency) settlement environments, including interaction with modern custody and wallet infrastructure.
Job Requirements
Education- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field
- 3–5 years of experience in merchant settlements, payments operations, or financial operations
- Experience in fintech, payments, or high-volume transaction environments is preferred
- Exposure to digital asset or cryptocurrency settlement environments is advantageous
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Experience with accounting or ERP systems (e.g., Xero, Oracle NetSuite, or similar platforms)
- Understanding of payment processing systems, settlement flows, FX applications, and reconciliation practices
- Familiarity with digital asset platforms such as Fireblocks or Utila is an advantage
- Strong proficiency in integrating AI tools into daily workflows to drive efficiency, quality, and innovation
- Strong attention to detail and financial accuracy
- Analytical mindset with the ability to investigate and resolve discrepancies
- Ability to clearly communicate financial concepts to non-finance stakeholders
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Experience in cryptocurrency or digital asset settlement operations
- Familiarity with merchant acquiring and payment gateway ecosystems
Job Responsibilities
Merchant Settlement Execution & Fund Flow Management- Execute daily merchant settlement processes, ensuring timely and accurate fund transfers
- Manage and monitor settlement flows across payment processors, banking partners, and internal systems
- Validate settlement amounts, deductions, and net payouts to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Monitor settlement cycles (e.g., T+N structures) and ensure adherence to agreed timelines
- Ensure accuracy of fund flows to mitigate financial and operational risk
- Perform reconciliation of settlement data across processors, internal systems, and reports
- Validate transaction and settlement data to ensure consistency across multiple data sources
- Identify and investigate discrepancies related to settlements, fees, and transaction activity
- Support resolution of reconciliation breaks impacting merchant settlements.
- Act as a key point of contact for Account Management teams on settlement-related matters
- Respond to and resolve merchant queries related to:
- settlement statements and transaction breakdowns
- FX conversions and rate applications
- rolling reserves and reserve releases
- fees, deductions, and net settlement calculations
- balance confirmations and outstanding positions
- settlement schedules, payout timelines, and funding cycles (T+N structures)
- Provide clear, accurate explanations of settlement flows, balances, and financial adjustments
- Support Account Management in maintaining strong merchant relationships through timely and effective query resolution
- Monitor merchant accounts for irregularities, outstanding balances, and settlement issues
- Maintain and update records of rolling reserves, settlement positions, and outstanding balances
- Conduct due diligence checks to validate merchant financial details and safeguard fund flows
- Ensure adherence to internal financial controls and operational procedures
- Identify and escalate settlement risks or financial exposure where required
- Prepare daily and periodic settlement reports, ensuring completeness and accuracy of financial data
- Maintain structured and auditable records of settlement activities
- Highlight discrepancies, trends, or risks impacting settlement accuracy and timelines
- Support accurate and complete reporting of all merchant-related transactions across multiple platforms, ensuring readiness for financial control review, audit requirements, and regulatory compliance
- Identify opportunities to improve settlement workflows, accuracy, and operational efficiency
- Support the implementation of process enhancements and automation initiatives
- Work with Finance and Operations teams to reduce manual processes and improve scalability
- Contribute to building robust and efficient settlement frameworks as transaction volumes grow
- Collaborate with Finance, Operations, Account Management, and external partners to ensure smooth settlement processes
- Liaise with payment processors, banks, and digital asset platforms to resolve settlement-related issues
- Support onboarding of new merchants or payment partners by aligning settlement and reporting requirements
