Welding Engineer

Waagner Biro Bridge Services is seeking a highly experienced Welding Engineer to join our dynamic team in Dubai. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in steel structures, a proven track record of welding supervision, and hold either AWS or CSWIP 3.2 certification. This role is critical in ensuring the quality, safety, and compliance of all welding operations across our projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and review Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) in line with project requirements and international standards.
- Supervise and monitor welding activities on-site and in fabrication workshops to ensure quality and adherence to specifications.
- Perform welding inspections, including visual and NDT interpretation, in accordance with AWS, ASME, or ISO standards.
- Coordinate with project engineers, fabricators, and QA/QC teams to resolve welding-related technical issues.
- Maintain compliance with applicable codes and standards such as API, AWS D1.1, ASME, and ISO.
- Conduct welder qualification tests and ensure welder certifications are up to date.
- Provide technical guidance and training to welders and other team members.
- Prepare detailed reports and documentation related to welding performance and inspections.
- Participate in audits, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive actions for welding defects or failures.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (mandatory).
- 10–15 years of relevant experience in welding engineering within the steel structure or heavy fabrication industry.
- Certification as AWS Certified Welding Inspector or CSWIP 3.2 (mandatory).
- Extensive knowledge of welding processes (SMAW, GTAW, FCAW, SAW), metallurgy, and heat treatment.
- Familiarity with international welding codes and standards (AWS, ASME, ISO, API).
- Proficient in reading technical drawings, welding symbols, and fabrication standards.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary team environment.
