Job purpose

The jobholder is responsible to provide RTIMS expertise in instrumentation and control engineering to ensure the operating condition for all respective equipment to support Borouge's operations and systems in line with original equipment manufacturer's user guide and engineering standards, and relevant ADNOC and international standards.

This role includes analyzing operation issues and designing and configuring RTIMS modifications related to logics, graphics, hardware, and other system interfaces to ensure smooth operation of the plant; obsolescence study and budgeting for RTIMS systems; maintaining the backups for RTIMS systems; monitoring, maintaining, and carrying out improvements in RTIMS systems to achieve optimum availability; playing the role of system architect to design and implement RTIMS automation systems for new projects and improvements in the existing plant.

  • Monitor, maintain and carry out improvements in RTIMS systems to achieve optimum availability.
  • Maintain the backups for RTIMS systems.
  • Obsolescence study and budgeting for RTIMS systems.
  • Play role of system architect to design and implement RTIMS systems for new projects or improvements in the existing plant.
  • Equipment maintenance, modification, and installation.
  • Suggest modifications for existing setup or the installation of new equipment for the improvement and modernization of the RTIMS systems.
  • Direct the enhancement and tuning of automated hardware and software.
  • Review system status, diagnostic logs and troubleshoot system issues.
  • Identify major issues and devise short term and long term solutions for the issues.
  • Administration and configuration of RTIMS systems hardware and software.
  • Review requirements for new equipment or major repairs, evaluate existing as well as new proposals, and make recommendations to the direct manager.
  • Plan, prepare and execute system software and hardware updates.
  • Perform obsolescence planning for upkeep of the entire system including hardware and software.
  • Assist in preparation and updating of ISO procedures.
  • Plan and manage vendor notifications issued.
  • Plan and execute upgrades for software of various systems to keep them in the latest supported levels by respective software OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer).
  • Ensure the operations and maintenance targets for RTIMS systems infrastructure are met.
  • Oversee all reliability indices, identify gaps and provide solutions accordingly.
  • Prepare the materials and supplies purchase requisitions.
  • Review tasks, analyze with reference to potential loss and safety hazards including identifying critical tasks.
  • Perform reliability studies to ensure optimum equipment availability.
  • Perform centralized failure data, root cause analyses of failures and suggest solutions.
  • Provide 24/7 telephone and on-call assistance on rotational basis within Automation Reliability Engineers team.
  • Monitor the work of external contractors involved in execution of projects.
  • Review and liaise with manufacturers' representatives from technical viewpoint for all safety system additions or modifications during engineering, installation and commissioning to ensure the Borouge specifications are adhered to.
  • Administer software contracts with various OEMs and vendors to obtain timely support for all the systems.
  • Raise technical issues with vendor and implement recommended solutions after validating them.
  • Coordinate the routine and planned automation maintenance activities.
  • Assist other engineers in solving technical problems.
  • Liaise with other maintenance and operations personnel to coordinate inter-discipline work activities or to arrange for plant shutdowns, major overhauls and other maintenance planning activities.

Qualifications, experience, knowledge & skills

Minimum qualification
  • University degree in electrical or electronic engineering or related discipline.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office and SAP system.
  • Fluency in English language; written and oral.
Minimum experience & knowledge & skills
  • Minimum 8 - 12 years of total experience in instrumentation and control for large plants.
  • Experience in oil and gas or petrochemical industries is preferred.
  • Hands-on and theoretical training on installation, repair, testing and maintenance of relevant systems.
  • Hands-on and working knowledge on relevant systems' configuration, network administration and maintenance, programs, sequences and logics.
  • Experience in Honeywell RTIMS system troubleshooting and modifications.
  • Experience in application logic development, implementation and troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on and/or theoretical training certifications on OSISoft's RTIMS systems configuring and troubleshooting skills.
  • Preferable knowledge on automation systems like Honeywell's and/or Experion DCS/ESD, knowledge of Honeywell PHD systems.
  • Microsoft Windows administration skills.
  • Knowledge of system diagnostic capabilities, back-up routines.
  • Advanced configuration and troubleshooting and failure analysis techniques.
  • Experience in automation systems implementation and roll out with respective teams.
  • Technical knowledge of petrochemicals operations and processes.
  • Knowledge of process alarm rationalization methods.
  • Attention to detail and strong analytical ability.
  • Experience on engineering archiving and retrieval systems; i.e. EDMS, etc.
  • Experience in SAP.
Professional certifications
  • Certifications on OSISoft's RTIMS systems is an advantage.
