Job Description
Job Purpose
The MEP Draughtsman is responsible for preparing detailed mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) drawings and layouts for landscaping projects, ensuring that all systems are integrated seamlessly with landscape architecture and infrastructure.This role supports the design and execution teams by translating engineering specifications into precise AutoCAD or BIM-based technical drawings, ensuring compliance with project requirements, regulatory standards, and coordination with other disciplines.
The MEP Draughtsman plays a key role in optimizing utility layouts for irrigation, lighting, drainage, and pumping systems within landscape environments.
Roles, Responsibilities, Duties
Design & Drafting
Prepare detailed MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) drawings and layouts for landscaping projects, including irrigation, lighting, drainage, water features, and pump systems.
Develop coordinated shop drawings based on design input, engineering data, and site requirements.
Create detailed CAD drawings for electrical panels, piping layouts, pump rooms, underground utilities, and control systems.
Assist in converting conceptual designs and mark-ups into technical drawings for construction and installation.
Coordination & Integration
Coordinate with landscape architects, civil engineers, and site teams to ensure proper integration of MEP systems into overall landscape design.
Ensure drawings are aligned with architectural, structural, and civil components and avoid service clashes.
Support BIM coordination when required, integrating MEP models with other disciplines.
Technical Compliance & Quality
Ensure all MEP designs comply with local authority regulations (e.g., DEWA, ADM, ADDC) and international standards.
Maintain accuracy and clarity in all drawings, specifications, and documentation.
Support the QA/QC process by ensuring drawing consistency and compliance with approved design packages.
Site & Project Support
Revise and update drawings based on site changes, project manager inputs, and redline markups.
Support the construction team with on-site clarifications and as-built drawing preparation.
Attend coordination meetings to gather necessary information for design modifications.
Documentation & Archiving
Maintain an organized library of drawing files and ensure proper version control and documentation.
Submit drawings and documents in line with project submission schedules and documentation protocols.
Innovation & Process Improvement
Stay updated with the latest drafting technologies and standards.
Recommend improvements in design methodologies and documentation for better project efficiency.
Education & Qualification
Diploma or Technical Certificate in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering, or equivalent technical field
Certified AutoCAD Draughtsman or equivalent CAD/BIM training from a recognized institute (mandatory)
Experience and Skills:
Industry Experience (No. of years):
3–5 years of relevant experience in MEP drafting, preferably within the landscaping, infrastructure, or construction sector
Proven experience in preparing detailed shop drawings for irrigation systems, lighting layouts, drainage, pump rooms, and utility networks
Skills & Competencies:
Technical Skills
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Civil 3D and other relevant CAD/BIM software
Strong understanding of MEP systems including irrigation, lighting, drainage, water features, and pump rooms
Ability to prepare detailed and coordinated shop drawings, sections, and as-built drawings
Knowledge of local authority standards (e.g., ADM, DEWA, ADDC) and international design codes
Familiarity with landscape-specific utility layouts and underground infrastructure
