As part of our continued growth, we are seeking a Biotechnologist to lead and support the development of plant biobanking capabilities, with a focus on tissue culture, cryopreservation, and the long-term conservation and valorisation of plant genetic resources.
Your Main Role Will Be:
- Develop and define laboratory structure needs for plant biobanking.
- Lead the development and optimisation of tissue culture and cryopreservation protocols.
- Establish and manage cryobanking activities, including sample collection, processing, storage, and traceability.
- Support conservation breeding and genetic resource management programmes through biotechnology applications.
- Ensure standardisation, quality control, and reproducibility of laboratory workflows and procedures.
- Develop and improve laboratory protocols for sample preservation, regeneration, and viability assessment.
- Collaborate with geneticists to align biotechnology applications with programme needs.
- Contribute to the structuring and management of biological sample databases and tracking systems.
- Identify and implement improvements to laboratory efficiency, workflows, and infrastructure.
- Support training, documentation, and internal capacity building in biotechnology techniques.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- A Ph.D., MSc., or equivalent degree in an area appropriate to this position.
- At least three years of related experience (including a PhD if applicable).
- Strong experience in tissue culture, cell culture, or plant/animal in vitro techniques.
- Knowledge of cryopreservation methods (e.g., vitrification, slow freezing) and sample storage management.
- Experience in handling biological samples and maintaining sterility and contamination control.
- Familiarity with laboratory quality standards and sample traceability systems.
- An understanding of genetic resource management and conservation applications is an advantage.
- Familiarity with laboratory data management systems and sample tracking tools.
- Working knowledge of data analysis or reporting tools (e.g., Excel, basic R/Python) is an advantage.
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
