Job Description

The Payroll Accountant is responsible for accurate and timely processing of employee payroll, maintaining payroll records, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations, and supporting audits and reporting requirements. The role also involves responding to payroll-related queries and contributing to the continuous improvement of payroll processes and systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare payroll ledger entries, including earnings, deductions, and adjustments.
• Generate payroll summaries and reports for managerial review.
• Process and issue paychecks in a timely and accurate manner.
• Ensure payroll data is accurately recorded in the accounting system.

• Respond to employee payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies.
• Maintain confidentiality and accuracy in handling employee data.

• Ensure payroll activities adhere to applicable federal and local labor laws and internal policies.
• Maintain payroll files in an organized manner for audit readiness.
• Assist with statutory reporting, tax filings, and end-of-service calculations.

• Suggest improvements to payroll systems, procedures, and controls.
• Support month-end and year-end payroll reconciliation and reporting.
• Assist in internal and external audits by preparing required payroll data and documents.

Skills & Knowledge

Essential:

• Proficient in payroll software (e.g., OnPay, Gusto, Xero).
• Strong knowledge of payroll accounting principles and tax regulations.
