As Shamal Holding continues to grow, we're in search of a Director Finance Controller. The primary objective of this role is to lead the financial reporting and AR/AP functions for Shamal Group and its subsidiaries, adhering to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRSs) and local Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAPs).This includes ensuring that financial statements are audited by external auditors. At Shamal we are driving finance transformation, and the successful candidate will need to demonstrate a digital first mindset.
Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting: Oversee the preparation and publication of timely monthly financial statements. Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
- Preparation of Financial Statements: Lead the preparation of standalone and consolidated financial statements (100+ entities), including comprehensive notes, ensuring compliance with IFRSs and local GAAPs on a quarterly and annual basis.
- Consolidation Processes: Oversee the preparation of consolidation at each parent entity level, and post necessary consolidation related entries in the ERP system monthly.
- Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable: Manage all accounting operations including billing, AR, AP, cost accounting, inventory accounting, and revenue recognition.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
- Accounting Entries: Oversee all entries related to fixed deposits, investments in associates, joint ventures, and quoted/unquoted equities are accurately recorded on a monthly, in line with IFRSs.
- Intercompany Transactions: Review the intercompany matrix prepared by the General Ledger (GL) team, identify discrepancies at the base level, and ensure that balances are reported at arm's length in alignment with the group's transfer pricing policy.
- Internal Controls: Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
- Coordination with Operators: Coordinate with local and foreign operators to obtain their reporting packages within agreed deadlines. Perform foreign currency translations (USD, GBP, EUR) in the ERP system to calculate foreign currency translation adjustments, ensuring accuracy and completeness monthly.
- Internal Audit Coordination: Liaise with the internal audit team to ensure that all audit findings are addressed on a priority basis, implementing corrective actions as necessary to maintain compliance and improve processes.
- External Audit Coordination: Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting and manage relationships with external auditors
- Transaction and Disclosure Compliance: Ensure appropriate accounting treatment of transactions and disclosures in the financial statements as per IFRSs, with a focus on revenue recognition, impairments, leases, and other financial instruments.
- Risk Management: Evaluate and manage risk, ensuring compliance with regulations and safeguarding the company's assets.
- Team Leadership and development: Provide leadership, direction, and management to the finance and accounting team, including managers responsible for specific functions. Mentor and develop finance staff, providing training and growth opportunities.
- Policy and Procedure Review: Continuously review policies, procedures, accounting documentation, and reports to identify and implement quality and efficiency improvements. Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in financial operations.
- Technology: Drive technology enhancements/automations within processes to reimagine processes to make them efficient with the use of technology.
- Stakeholder Communication: Communicate financial results and insights to senior management and other stakeholders.
- ERP Management: Oversee the timely monthly closing and opening of sub-ledgers in the ERP system. Create and maintain the group's chart of accounts and other financial dimensions in the ERP. Lead the implementation of consolidation tool.
- Team Support: Provide guidance and support to other team members within the finance team, advising on the correct accounting treatments for any issues they encounter.
- Financial Projects: Manage assigned financial projects, such as system implementations or process improvements. Develop project timelines, budgets, and resources.
People Management Responsibilities:
- Performance Management: Set performance expectations and goals, conduct regular performance evaluations, and provide feedback and coaching to team members.
- Addressing Performance Issues: Address performance issues and implement improvement plans.
- Training and Development: Identify training needs within the team and provide necessary training.
- Communication: Conduct regular team meetings and communicate organizational goals and changes.
- Team Building: Organize team-building activities.
- Delegation: Assign tasks and responsibilities to team members.
- Leadership Development: Identify and develop potential future leaders and implement strategies to ensure a smooth transition during role changes.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field. A Master's degree or MBA is preferred.
- Certification: Chartered Accountant (CA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or equivalent.
- Experience: Over 15 years of relevant work experience, including industry experience and experience in one of the Big 4 auditing firms.
- Skills: Strong leadership and strategic thinking skills, proficiency in financial software, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work under pressure.
