Overview

We're seeking a Cloud Engineer - Database to design, deploy, and optimize cloud-native and hybrid database solutions on Microsoft Azure. As part of the Microsoft Cloud Center of Excellence (CoE), you will be responsible for database automation, performance tuning, high availability, security, and cost optimization for mission-critical workloads.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on expertise in Azure SQL Database, Cosmos DB, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and NoSQL solutions and experience with database migration, automation, and monitoring in cloud environments.

Responsibilities
  • Deploy, configure, and manage Azure SQL Database, Managed Instance, Cosmos DB, PostgreSQL, and MySQL.
  • Implement high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) strategies using Geo-Replication, Failover Groups, and Backup Automation.
  • Optimize query performance, indexing, and partitioning for high-transactional workloads.
  • Design multi-region, distributed, and hybrid database architectures for scalability and performance.
  • Implement RBAC, encryption (TDE, Always Encrypted), and auditing to enhance data security.
  • Enforce Zero Trust database security models and access control policies.
  • Ensure compliance with SOC2, HIPAA, GDPR, NIST, and CIS benchmarks.
  • Configure security measures such as firewall rules, private endpoints, and Defender for SQL for security hardening.
  • Automate database provisioning, scaling, and maintenance using Terraform, Bicep, and ARM Templates.
  • Develop database CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps and GitHub Actions.
  • Implement self-healing and auto-scaling database architectures using Azure Monitor and Logic Apps.
  • Leverage Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Query Performance Insights for proactive monitoring and anomaly detection.
  • Use AI-driven analytics to automate database performance tuning.
  • Optimize costs through reserved instances, auto-scaling, and workload right-sizing.
  • Implement capacity planning and forecasting for scalable database workloads.
  • Lead database migration projects using Azure Database Migration Service (DMS).
  • Transform legacy on-premises databases into cloud-native PaaS solutions.
  • Implement ETL pipelines and data integration solutions using Azure Data Factory.
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience in Database Administration, Cloud Databases, and Performance Tuning, with at least 1 year in Azure.
  • Strong expertise in Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, PostgreSQL, and NoSQL databases.
  • Experience in database security, IAM, encryption, and compliance.
  • Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep, ARM) and database automation.
  • Hands-on experience with performance tuning, indexing, and workload optimization.
  • Strong written and verbal English skills for effective communication.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills for debugging performance issues.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication with Cloud, DevOps, and Data Engineering teams.
  • Ability to document database architectures, troubleshooting guides, and automation scripts.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with multi-cloud databases and hybrid architectures.
  • Knowledge of big data solutions such as Azure Synapse, Databricks, Kafka, and Event Hub.
  • Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate (DP-300).
  • Experience with serverless databases (Azure SQL Hyperscale, Firebase, DynamoDB).
