[ref. l89113320] Project Director - Construction and Contracting
Description
A construction director is a person who is responsible for the planning, budgeting and coordinating of various construction projects. These projects will normally be spread out through different sectors: residential, commercial and industrial infrastructure.Depending on a director’s expertise, skill level and specialty, these people can either be adept at a specific field, or knowledgeable enough to lead a construction team in all 3.
Construction directors are also at the helm of other projects, such as factories, treatment facilities, roads and highways, bridges, dams and more.
Responsibilities of a Construction Director
Needless to say, a construction director has a plethora of responsibilities, ranging from supervising an entire construction project or just a specific area, coordinating with multiple construction teams, to overseeing the design of a project.
Directors can also check different aspects of a construction project, such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry, waste disposal and more. Construction directors can either work as a company-employed worker, or on a contractual or consultancy basis.
A director normally receives project assignments from contracting companies, construction developers and independent property owners.
Nature of a Construction Director’s Work
A competent construction director will be very involved in a project, right from its developmental phase. Directors must see to it that a project proceeds according to its plan specifics, budget and estimated time of completion.
As such, engineers, architects and property owners will have to coordinate with a construction director in the earliest stages of a project to see to it that no resources are wasted.
Larger Projects Call for More Construction Directors
For large and highly complex construction projects, constructions directors will often be assigned to different project areas. Again, the more knowledgeable, skilled and experienced a construction director is, the more responsibilities he will have.
