Safety Officer

Job Description

Role Objective:

• Use the most suitable methods of ensuring security, safety, health protection of the environment in the delivery of projects and the smoothness of work process.
• Support the Health, Safety, Security, Environment & Logistics Unit in delivering a reliable and effective health and safety service.
• Ensure implementation of DAEP strategy through the alignment of Unit and Individual objectives and measures to organization wide strategic objectives, enabling the organisation to achieve its vision.
• Ensure compliance to all relevant quality, health and safety, security and environmental management policies, procedures and controls across DAEP to guarantee employee safety, security, legislative compliance, delivery of high quality services with minimum impact to the environment.

Role Responsibilities:

• Coordinate to ensure compliance with UAEs safety and environment protection legislation and other international best practice.
• Assist in ensuring contractors and consultants comply to protect environment, carry out regular waste management, management of hazardous materials and dangerous materials.
• Ensure effective implementation of the HSSE procedures across DAEP.
• Monitor progress of safety programs and take the necessary steps to expedite the work.
• Support the Function in completing prescribed activities/task as required and under supervision.
• Handle internal or external communication and provide technical advice and support.
• Produce correspondence, reports, presentations and confidential documents in consultation with Unit leads.
• Ensure quality of information shared.
• Any other duties or responsibilities assigned by the Reporting Supervisor.

Education:

• BSc. or Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Management from an accredited body.
• A professional certification e.g. - National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) certification or equivalent is desirable.
• Computer Literacy MS Office Suite (Word/Excel/Power Point/Outlook).

Experience:

• 4 years or more experience working post qualification with a proven record of accomplishment from a reputable organisation.
• At least 2 years working experience in the Middle East.
• Excellent English language skills (Arabic Highly Desirable).

Technical Skills:

• Knowledge of health, safety, security, environmental & welfare regulations
• Knowledge of emergency procedures, firefighting and basic first aid.
• Investigation of incidents and unsafe working conditions
• Strong IT skills for preparing relevant HSSE reports and presentations for Unit
• Be able to work and compile data and reports
• Able to work irregular hours and on weekends.
• Ensure quality of information shared internally or externally with stakeholders, contractors and consultants.
