Job Description

The Senior MEP Engineer & Quantity Surveyor is responsible for the review design, coordination, and execution of mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP) and ELV systems in construction projects. The role ensures that all MEP systems meet the project requirements, comply with codes and standards, and are delivered on time and within budget.

The ideal candidate must be capable of independently managing both MEP engineering & Quantity Surveyor roles and must possess strong knowledge of current UAE market rates and MEP material costs of high-rise construction works.

Education
  • B.E / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
Experience
  • Minimum 7+ years of UAE experience in MEP engineering and quantity surveying, preferably in high-rise building construction projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Design & Planning
  • Lead the review and development of MEP designs and shop drawings for building projects.
  • Ensure compliance with local regulations, authority requirements, project specifications, and client standards.
  • Perform engineering calculations for HVAC load requirements, electrical distribution systems, plumbing, drainage, and fire protection systems.
  • Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, consultants, and subcontractors to integrate MEP systems effectively.
  • Review design clashes and provide practical engineering solutions during design and execution stages.
  • Participate in design coordination meetings and present technical MEP proposals.
  • Monitor on-site MEP installations and provide technical support to contractors and site teams.
  • Supervise testing and commissioning activities for MEP systems.
  • Ensure proper preparation and submission of as-built drawings, O&M manuals, warranties, and handover documents.
  • Review the work of the MEP team to maintain high-quality engineering standards.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Stay updated with the latest MEP technologies, authority regulations, and industry best practices.
  1. Quantity Surveying & Cost Management
  • Prepare detailed MEP cost estimates, Bills of Quantities (BOQ), and tender documentation.
  • Analyze project drawings, specifications, and technical documents to determine quantities and project costs.
  • Provide accurate cost projections and support MEP budget planning.
  • Prepare MEP tender comparison reports with cost analysis and recommendations.
  • Monitor project costs against approved budgets, identify variances, and implement corrective measures.
  • Review and interpret MEP contracts, agreements, and scope documents.
  • Generate periodic cost reports, cash flow forecasts, and financial summaries.
  • Maintain accurate quantity take-offs, cost records, and project documentation for MEP items.
  • Recommend value engineering options to improve cost efficiency, reduce wastage, and optimize resource utilization.
  1. Pre-contract-responsibilities:
  • Conduct design gateway reviews to ensure consultant submissions comply with the project design brief and milestone schedules.
  • Review MEP tender drawings, specifications, and approved vendor lists.
  • Propose and implement value engineering solutions with consultants and bidders to optimize project cost.
  • Assist in preparing MEP tender bid documentation for contractor selection.
  • Review MEP scope of work to ensure all systems are integrated efficiently and are operationally practical for the client.
  • Review the MEP sequence of works in line with the master construction program to ensure coordination with civil and fit-out works.
  • Verify the Cause-and-Effect Matrix and assess the performance requirements of ELV systems, including: (CCTV system, Access Control System, Fire Alarm System, Central Battery System, Structured Cabling system, Converged Network System, Wi-fi System, Lighting Control and Dimming System, BGM / AV System, Disabled Toilet Alarm System).
  1. Post contract-phase responsibilities:
  • Escalate any issues affecting the critical project path to the Project Manager in a timely manner.
  • Conduct regular coordination meetings with MEP contractors and consultants to monitor project progress against milestones.
  • Monitor and control project costs, delays, variation claims, and quality compliance.
  • Track local authority NOCs, approvals, inspections, and checklists to ensure uninterrupted workflow.
  • Coordinate with contractors for timely procurement of long-lead MEP equipment.
  • Conduct weekly testing and commissioning meetings with contractor teams and third-party commissioning agents.
