Job Purpose
To provide legal counseling to the management of the Maritime & Shipping Cluster in controlling and managing legal and corporate affairs. The role includes advising on legal risks, drafting contracts, managing litigation, conducting due diligence, and ensuring compliance with legal provisions while protecting the company's interests.
Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
Provide legal advice on daily operations, transactions, and contracts in alignment with policies and procedures to minimize financial, legal, and reputational risks.
Create long-term compliance strategies and implement related standards and procedures.
Draft, review, and validate financial, regulatory, governmental, and IT-related contracts.
Maintain and manage legal and corporate records, agreements, and documentation.
Liaise with external legal counsel and regulatory bodies for legal support and case management.
Assist in the formulation of legal documentation, procedures, and reports.
Participate in litigation, claims resolution, and contract negotiations.
Support the legal due diligence process in coordination with internal legal teams.
Maintain a repository of relevant laws, regulations, and legal precedents.
Respond to internal legal queries, highlight contractual risks, and recommend legal actions.
People Management
Provide leadership, supervision, and guidance to legal team members.
Mentor and coach junior legal staff to enhance capability and performance.
Create a collaborative environment that supports innovation and accountability.
Identify skill gaps and implement relevant legal training programs.
Strategic Responsibilities
Contribute to the development of legal strategies aligned with business objectives.
Act as a trusted legal advisor to leadership on maritime regulatory trends and best practices.
Translate cluster-level strategic goals into actionable legal initiatives.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Law or related field (Master's preferred).Experience: 1215 years of experience in legal advisory roles, with a focus on maritime, contracts, or corporate law.
Required Skills
Expert knowledge of legal methodologies, drafting, and contract law
Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills
High attention to detail and documentation accuracy
Ability to understand complex strategic and regulatory frameworks
Fluency in English; Arabic is a plus
Common law solicitors UK / Singapore / Hk / Aus / NZ / NY only. If required, I can consider German lawyer
Shipping / trading / commodity lawyer from an established law firm or a ship owning company or a trading or commodity firm
Must have at least 3 8 years of PQE
